New Years Eve! We had our traditional New Years Eve festivities that started with a progressive dinner (soup, salad, dinner each at a different house) then went back to Grandma and Poppa's for dessert. We watched the annual video slide show that Grandma makes of all the kids activities throughout the year, we played games and then at midnight we had fireworks (and we even had my husband on video call when the clock struck 12.). It is always a fun night and the kids love staying up late for the party.

2012 was good, and I think 2013 could be even better...

:)

Sunday morning. Instead of finding their shoes so we could get to church on time, they were doing their dolls' hair.
(These were their Christmas gifts from Grandma and Poppa, complete with matching dresses.)

He would rather sleep anywhere other than his bedroom.

December 28, 2012

Playing in the snow with Grandma. Grandma outlasted the kids, she was still building the snow fort after most of the kids had come in.

December 27, 2012

The winter weather has finally arrived and no one wants to go outside much. I have found that the days seem longer and the kids' fights seem more frequent when we are all cooped up in the house together. Today the boys discovered that when they got too close to each other, their remotes would start controlling the other car. It was fun for a while and then they both became extremely frustrated. :)

December 26, 2012

My husband sent these to the girls for Christmas (he bought them there from a local vendor). My oldest girl had seen pictures of how to wear them and knew just what to do. The girls have loved using them to dress up. (They have also used them as blankets, capes, and doll carriers and there was an attempt to use one as a hammock, but I put a stop to that.)

Christmas Morning at our house.  My husband wasn't able to be home this year but we setup a video chat and brought the laptop into the living room so he could watch the kids open their presents. I so much wish that he could be home with us, but it was nice that he was able to watch all the excitement on Christmas morning. (I also wish he could be here for the post-Christmas cleanup--the one that involves a lot of boxes and packaging and wrapping paper all over the floor.)
We spent the rest of the day at both of the Grandparent's houses visiting and eating and being with family. It was a good day, I love this time of year.

Merry Christmas!

December 24, 2012

On Christmas eve all the kids (big and little) get new pajamas from Grandma and Poppa. I love this tradition.

December 23, 2012

The Sunday before Christmas the family gets together to have dinner and sing Christmas songs and the grand kids do the Nativity.

December 22, 2012

Our late night visit to see the Christmas lights.
(It of course ended up with crying children because they were up past their bedtime, but I still thought the lights were lovely.)

December 21, 2012

Here is our obviously posed, morning scripture reading. In reality mornings rarely look this calm. We had a great goal to finish the Book of Mormon by the end of the year. I can positively say that we won't be reaching that goal--but we made a good effort. :)
What you would see and hear on  a normal morning would be me saying "hurry, hurry, hurry", "put your shoes on!" or "the bus will be here soon, you CAN NOT miss the bus!". There would be frantic searches for library books, or permission slips. You would probably hear my youngest boy calling "mommy, moooooommmmmy" from his crib or highchair. You would hear arguing over who's turn it was to read (the older one reads the words the younger ones repeat a few words at a time after I whisper it in their ear). There would be fighting and eventually crying over who got to hold the phone (we have been trying to include my husband in scripture reading by using video call on my phone...sometimes the internet connection there allows it, often times it is a bad connection and we can only hear every other word he says.) You would see someone having a grumpy attitude, someone refusing to participate unless they get to sit in a certain spot on the couch and you would hear us very, very slowly get through 5 maybe 6 verses of scripture.
Our new goal is to finish it by next year, I can't guarantee it though, we have been in Alma for a long, long time.

December 20, 2012

Today was her first piano recital. She didn't seem nervous at all, she played Jingle Bells and did a great job. (I think it is so cute that her feet still don't reach the pedals, it means she isn't as grown up as she pretends to be.)

December 19, 2012

This is my sister's cute family as her children get to see their new baby sister for the first time. My sister and brother-in-law adopted a beautiful baby girl and today they got to take her home. (And I got to come along and photograph it.) It was such a special day. That baby girl is so loved!

December 18, 2012

It seems like this time of year is filled with Christmas programs and parties, this week we have a few of each of those. Tonight was his preschool Christmas program. He loves his preschool and his teacher and it was fun seeing him with all his cute classmates (many of which are our neighbors) sing their Christmas songs. And when they were all done singing Santa came and visited with them. (When I told him Santa had just arrived he said "He is here? Are you kidding me?!")

December 17, 2012

There were big flakes of snow falling this evening. It didn't last long and it didn't stick but the kids and I loved watching it.

December 16, 2012

Real life.

December 15, 2012

This morning we had "Breakfast at Grandmas". The kids got to eat breakfast and fill out a Christmas list and put it in Grandma's special mailbox to be sent to the North Pole. They got to help put money on the money tree that will be donated to a family in need and then the younger grand kids played their ukulele version of  Jingle Bells, which we hope to have perfected by Christmas. (Hah!)

(Grandma and Grandpa give the kids Ukuleles for their birthdays, my boys haven't been old enough to get theirs yet so we made due with a plastic violin and a xylophone. )   :)

December 14, 2012

We wanted to make sure he had a tree this year. The kids and I made one out of paper and then painted it green. Then we made some ornaments with paper and glitter (oh the glitter, glitter is never a good idea with children under 5, EVER). Packages take about a week to get there so we sent it off last week along with another box with a couple presents inside (that he is not supposed to open until Christmas). I love that he put his present under the tree.

December 13, 2012

My girl is in Kindergarten. Some days she has a hard time going to Kindergarten. She has a lot of worries, and come ups with a lot of "what ifs" and she is always concerned that we are doing fun things with out her while she is at school. Today she had her first field trip. She was worried about going somewhere she hadn't been, she was worried about riding the bus without having her older sister with her. There was a moment this morning during a semi-emotional meltdown where I wasn't sure if she was going to make it to her first field trip. But she went and she had fun and she came home to tell me all about it (and I assured her that we didn't have any fun at home while she was at school). I am proud of her.

December 12, 2012

Today he picked out his own clothes(sweat pants and an inside-out shirt that was too small) got dressed and headed outside to play. Later he made himself a peanut butter sandwich. He insists on combing his own hair and brushing his teeth without any help. And this afternoon when I came downstairs to see what he was doing I found him sprawled out on the couch with his hands behind his head relaxing and watching PBS kids shows. Obviously being 3 years old is exhausting and he needed some down time.
