Glowing screens are like child magnets.

Big brother annoys little brother until little brother finally snaps and goes after him and bites him. Eventually they are rolling around on the floor fighting and it finally ends up with both of them crying. We do this all day long.

Snow in the mountains. Definitely not "The Greatest Snow on Earth" but still snow. Maybe he will even have a white Christmas over there. :)

She has had a fever off and on for a few days. Today I had her stay home from school just to make sure she was over it. She seemed good most of the day but tonight she started feeling warm again. When I told her I thought she seemed like she had a fever again she said "Yay no school!" I think Kindergarten is a little too early to start wanting to miss school.

With one of my kids running a fever and another with a never-ending runny nose I declared it a no church day. That meant I had a whole lot of time to kill with a lot of children to entertain and no place to go. I figured today would be as good a day as any to get the Christmas tree out and have the kids decorate it.
(Here is where I thank my husband for storing the Christmas tree in the deepest darkest part of our basement and then putting the heaviest boxes and containers we own right on top or in front of the Christmas tree box. It probably would have taken me less time to walk to a forest, cut down a Christmas tree and drag it to our home than it did to pull that gigantic box out of the basement...just kidding. Kind of. :)
After dragging the box from the basement and up the stairs (and taking a moment to regain my Holiday cheer) I had the kids help me put it up and decorate it. It turned out to be a good time and I loved how excited they were to do it. We still have one section of the tree that I can't seem to make light up but the kids had fun and whenever I look at the tree it makes me happy so it was all worth it.

The girls and I got to go see The Nutcracker ballet this afternoon with Grandma Z. and some of the older cousins. (I used to go with my Grandma when I was a little girl and I was excited for my girls to get to see it with their Grandma.) We had a good time despite the 6 (six!) bathroom breaks that we had to take. :)

I found him outside this morning dancing with his shadow. By the time I got my camera out he was embarrassed about the dancing but he was still fascinated with his shadow.

This wasn't the best Thanksgiving we have ever had but we are still thankful. :)
Photos: James eating Thanksgiving dinner a few thousand miles a way, me being sick to my stomach, our four kids being taken care of by our fabulous family.
I woke up sick early this morning. I called my mom who called my brother in laws to give me a blessing. My sister came over and took care of my kids, dressed them fed them and took them with her so I could sleep. I alternated between the bathroom and my bed while my husband tried to cheer me up by chatting with me on video call. My mother-in-law called and said to send the kids over to her house so my kids got to go over to Grandma and Poppa's for Thanksgiving dinner. Then my sister picked them up and took them to my Mom and Dad's house for their second Thanksgiving dinner. I slept all day and then I finally pulled myself together and brought the kids home and put them to bed early. All is well now, but it was a rough day.
I am thankful to have family that can take care of me and my kids at a moments notice and don't think twice about having 4 parentless children at Thanksgiving dinner. I am thankful for my husband who despite the fact that we have a 12 hour time difference stays up all night to talk me through my sick day. I am thankful for easy going kids who are just happy to be where ever they are. I am blessed.

He can't be home for Thanksgiving this year but I am thankful for the technology that allows us to see and talk to each other everyday.

This kid is a trouble maker. He is constantly getting into things, I just follow him around cleaning up his messes. Today I found him hiding by the back door with a jar of peanut butter. Luckily I caught him before he opened it, I can only imagine the mess he would have made.

Tonight my daughter swallowed the little metal tab from a soda pop can. Apparently she popped it off the can, put it in her mouth and then took a drink of soda and accidentally swallowed it. Why someone would put something metal with sharp edges in their mouth is really beyond me. I couldn't decide if this was something to just let nature handle or if we needed to get it checked out. I ended up taking her in to her pediatrician just to make sure. It was a long night at the doctor's office but they did eventually locate it and assured me that it wasn't near her throat or lungs. So now we wait and tomorrow we will go back and have another x-ray to make sure it is moving. The lectures she received tonight from me and from the doctor should last her a lifetime. And if they don't, I printed off a copy of her x-ray to hang on her bedroom wall to remind her exactly why her mother is always telling her not put things in her mouth.

I attempted to have a movie night with the kids. It didn't last long though, the DVD stopped working, there was a fight about who ate all the popcorn and my daughter got gum in her hair. Mostly it just ended up being a night with a lot of tired, crying and unhappy children. Fun times!

The weather was nice today. The snow in our yard is melted but he still insisted on wearing his snow boots, they are the only pair of shoes he has that he can put on by himself. (Notice how they aren't on the right feet.) He loves his boots. Maybe I will start calling Napoleon. :)

The girls have been gathering the toy catalogs that come in the mail and taking them to their room to read before bedtime.
November 13, 2012
Playing games on the Kindle tonight. I need to find better ways to entertain my kids after dark. Those hours between 5pm and bedtime are so very long.
November 12, 2012
Tonight was "Parent Night" at the girls' tumbling and dance classes. I got to go in and watch them (which I don't normally get to do because their little brothers go crazy and run around whenever we are in public places, so I usually end up sitting in the car with the boys while the girls are at class.) But tonight my sister took the boys and I got to sit and watch. Everybody in the class gets to show what they can do and everybody gets a ribbon, it is cute how proud they are of their little ribbons.

And more snow. Putting on all of his snow clothes took more time than he spent actually playing in the snow.
November 9, 2012
Snow! Enough of it to make my kids happy, but not enough of it that I have to shovel my driveway. Perfect.

She came home early from school today because she was sick. Stomach flu, I think. She was pretty miserable this afternoon but she is beginning to feel a little better and was able to eat some dinner tonight. Now we wait and see which family member is next...

Oh this boy. He wakes me up way too early every morning. His quietest whisper is still pretty loud. He sneaks into the kitchen cupboard and eats peanut butter by the spoonful. He announces when he needs to use the bathroom, it doesn't matter where we are, he let's everyone know he needs to go potty. He cannot possibly look at anything without touching it and he is always going through the kitchen drawers getting into things. He is stubborn and very rarely eats his dinner. But, when he kisses my face and says "You are mine mom" it's easy to forget about all the naughty things he did all day. :)

I am loving this weather and the beautiful colors. I would be totally fine if we just kept autumn around for a few more months and skipped winter altogether this year.
November 5, 2012
My boys sitting at the table eating lunch today. I love that even though there is plenty of room on the bench they still sit right by each other.
November 4, 2012
My girls illuminated by the glow of my iPhone. They spend way too much time staring at screens. The same could probably be said about me too.
November 3, 2012
A kitten showed up in the backyard and entertained the kids today. They fed it tuna fish and bacon and milk. They followed it around, watched it and they tried to catch it but the closest they came was touching it for a split second. It kept them busy most of the day. I tried to explain that it is probably somebody's pet and it will go back home (or worse that it is a stray with weird diseases) but they don't seem to really listen to any of that. They are too busy making plans for it's bed and thinking of names. And tonight at dinner when the girls were deciding what part of their dinner they were going to feed to the cat no one even heard me say "we are not keeping the cat!" It's like I am talking to myself around here.

Up until recently getting this boy to sleep was a big task. I can't even begin to count the hours and hours I spent holding him, rocking him to sleep. It was a long process and every night (and at nap time) I would sit and rock until he seemed asleep enough that I could set him down in his crib without waking him. And then after all of that, he would usually wake up a couple times a night and I would have to start all over. It was hard, it was exhausting and tedious and I wished for the day I would be able to just put him in bed, say "goodnight" and walk out of the room. I don't know exactly when or how it happened but now, it really is that easy. He is happy to go to bed, he lays down, gets his blankets and says "bye mom". And just like that, our long and drawn-out bedtime routine is gone. And tonight when I put him to bed, I sort of missed it.
